Georgetown Downs Villanova
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Trez Kilpatrick had 19 points, including
nine in the final four minutes, as Georgetown defeated Villanova 67-61
at the CoreStates Center Monday night.
Boubacar Aw had 14 points and 10 rebounds while Kenny Brunner added
13 points and nine assists for Georgetown (9-5 overall, 3-4 Big East),
which snapped a two-game losing streak.
The Hoyas made 18 of 22 from the foul line, where they were 8-of-22
in a loss to Villanova earlier this season.
Howard Brown led Villanova with 19 points, while John Celestand had
14 for the Wildcats (7-7, 4-2), who have lost two in a row in the
conference.
After Celestand sank one of two free throws with 4:40 left,
Kilpatrick scored five straight points and the Hoyas took a 57-53 lead.
Brian Lynch tapped in an offensive rebound to pull the Wildcats within
two, but Kilpatrick hit a layup followed by three free throws from
Brunner to ice the game for Georgetown.
Villanova grabbed a 39-33 lead early in the second half, but the
Hoyas outscored the Wildcats 13-2 to pull ahead 46-41. Villanova
responded with an 11-4 run of its own to go ahead by two, at 52-50, with
5:14 remaining before Nat Burton hit two free throws to tie the game.
The Wildcats had jumped out to a 20-11 lead midway through the first
half, but Georgetown went on a 12-0 run during which Villanova missed 11
shots. Villanova then scored nine of the half's final 11 points to hold
a 29-27 halftime lead.
