Villanova Tied for Eighth After Day 2 of the BIG EAST Championships

HEBRON, Ky. - In the second round of the BIG EAST Championship the Wildcats moved into a tie for eighth place with a strong team performance of all counted scores being a 74 or 75. With an overall score of 603 Villanova finished only three shots out of fifth place.

Junior Brett Bergman (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Freshman Conor Casey (Madison, N.J.) led the Wildcats, each with a score of 74 in the second round. Bergman, Villanova's leader after the first round, finished tied for ninth place. Casey improved his score from Saturday by one stroke to put him tied for 14th place, only two strokes behind his Villanova teammate. The pair combined for four birdies on the day, Bergman on the third and the 16th and Casey the eighth and ninth.

Freshman Colin List (Boynton Beach, Fla.) shot three above par for the day finishing tied for 27th place. He birdied on the sixth, 11th and 12th holes. Junior Doug Stadler (Wexford, Pa.) also shot a 75 for the Wildcats to finish the day tied for 44th. Stadler birdied on the fourth and 11th holes.

Ted Gray of Marquette remained the leader after the second round with a score of 68, leading the rest of the field by seven strokes. Marquette maintained their team lead with a score of 579.

This week's BIG EAST Championship is being contested at Traditions Golf Club and is being hosted by Cincinnati. The course measures 7,103 yards and is a par-72 format. Play continues at 8 a.m. on Tuesday for the final round of the competition. Villanova will be paired with Cincinnati and DePaul with tee times between 8:50 and 9:30, starting at the 10th hole.
