BETHLEHEM, PA--- In men's lacrosse action in Bethlehem, Pa.,
Villanova defeated Lehigh by a score of 11-10. With the win, Villanova improves to 6-7, while
Lehigh falls to 5-6.
Lehigh started the game in good fashion, racing to a 4-2 lead after
one quarter. The Wildcats bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring Lehigh, 3-1, to send the
teams to intermission tied at 5-5.
The Engineers came out of the locker room strong, as they tallied
five third quarter goals and led 10-8 heading into the fourth and final stanza.
Villanova goalie Mike Mullette shutout Lehigh in the fourth quarter,
putting his team in position to earn the win. In the fourth, Villanova managed three goals to
pull out the 11-10 victory.
The Wildcats were led by Tom Hourican who netted three goals. Andrew
Bogle and Eric Dauer recorded two goals each. Other Villanova goal scorers included
Jeff Huber, Jesse Ford, Chris Archinaco and David D'Amico who had one goal a piece. In net, Mullette
made nine saves. For the game, Villanova outshot Lehigh, 42-31.
Leading the way for Lehigh was Mark Duncan with three goals and Doug
McKerns and Ian MacGilvray who both scored twice. Lehigh goalie Todd Schreiner stopped 14
Villanova shots.
Villanova returns to action on Saturday, April 25, when the close out
the 1998 regular season at Georgetown. Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
