Cherkez Named to the Northeast All-Region Team by the AVCA

Dec. 5, 2007

List of All-Region Players (.pdf)

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has announced its 2007 Division I All-Region teams and Villanova University senior Alona Cherkez was named to the Northeast Region team. Cherkez is only the second player in school history to be named to the All-Region team following Stacy Evans' two-year run in 1996-97.

The northeast region encompasses the America East Conference, Atlantic 10 Conference, BIG EAST Conference, Ivy League, Patriot League and Providence College. Seven of the 12 members of the All-Region team came from the BIG EAST including four from BIG EAST Champion St. John's University.

Cherkez finished the season with 642 kills and 366 digs both ranking first on the team. She currently ranks fifth in the country with 5.44 kills per game. She ended her career ranked in the top-10 in five different career categories at VU including the number one spot in kills per game with 4.48. She also appears six times in the single-season records including the top spot for single season kills with 642.

Cherkez will now be eligible for the AVCA All-American team which is announced December 12th.
